2019 Summer Internships

Tall Ships Maine seeks interns for the summer of 2019 to support our mission of coordinating experiential education expeditions for teens . Our internships provide hands-on experience for college students and recent graduates interested in pursing careers in education, marketing, non-profit management, sail training and technology. We are based in downtown Portland, a special place to spend the summer.

Events Intern

Our events intern plays a key role in coordinating and managing our Summer event series, including Portland SchoonerFest & Regatta (June 21-23, 2019) and Tall Ships® Weekend 2019 (date TBD). The role provides valuable management and leadership experience.

Responsibilities are diverse and engaging, giving you real world experience, from Salesforce to schooners.

Skills desired: Proficiency with MS Office suite, social media, sales experience, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

This is a full-time internship and requires some evening and weekend hours. Stipend available for qualified applicants. You will have the opportunity to sail on a tall ship during your internship.

Development Intern

Tall Ships Maine is growing and our development intern will play a critical role in our efforts over the summer. The intern reports to our development director and responsibilities include: research projects, producing fundraising and marketing materials, fundraising events, and data entry in our Salesforce database.

Skills desired: Proficiency with MS Office suite, social media, strong written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.

With over 8,000 non-profits in Maine alone, the the skills gained open up doors to many development opportunities, while transferrable to other fields., while transferrable to other fields. This is a full-time internship and requires some evening and weekend hours. Stipend available for qualified applicants. You will have the opportunity to sail on a tall ship during your internship.

Sail Training Program Intern

Tall Ships Maine seeks to send 200 students to sea for 5 day, 4 night sailing adventures in 2019. We work with several tall ships, primarily Schooner Harvey Gamage. The Sail Training Coordinator will coordinate our programs during the course of the summer. The successful applicant will have teaching experience and experience as crew at sea. expect to sail on a tall ship on at least two one-week voyages.

This is a full time summer internship. Alternating weeks on board ship and in the home office in Portland. Stipend available for qualified applications. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. If you don't receive a reply within 7 days, please resubmit.

Sailing Instructor

Tall Ships Maine seeks a sailing instructor to live and work at Camp Hinds in Raymond, ME teaching sailing to 1,200 Scouts over the summer of 2019. In 2019, the sailing program will run on Panther Pond in Force 5s, Lasers and Sunfish. The Sail Training Educator will coordinate this new, expanded program while receiving room and board at Camp Hinds. The successful applicant will have their US Sailing Level I certification, teaching experience, basic boat repair skills and sailing instructional experience. Weekends off.

June 15, to August 15, 2019 Summer stipend $1,500 including room and board. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
